About Us
Discovering Open Spaces is a non profit organization whose mission statement is to educate our community the importance of healthy recreation & education through the development of new disc golf courses and maintaining & improving existing disc golf courses.
Our board of directors meet every four months with agendas & attainable goals set fourth from the previous meeting. Our current goals are to:
Design & develop new disc golf course(s). After a long arduous process we are currently in contacts with King County & City of Seattle Parks & Recreation Departments. We feel there is a definite need for at least a few more disc golf courses, for a few reasons:
1. The City of Seattle currently has 1 disc golf on city parks property
2. The current economic status lends a hand to to growing popularity of disc golf. Since its FREE & anyone can play may be a coupe of key factors in the current growth.
3. With the size and population of our growing city we currently have the least amount of disc golf courses per capita then any other state.
4. We witness first hand the need for more courses by going to any course on any given day for a casual round of disc golf, only to find out there is a fairly long wait just to play.
5. Disc Golf is one of the fastest growing sports in the world right now.
Our future goals are to design & develop an 18 hole champion style disc golf course with a pro shop & club house on site. To include a 9 hole beginner disc golf course with an on-site course pro for educational seminars. This will only help in providing a meeting place for surrounding school districts to implement disc golf PE programs, school disc golf clubs, and school disc golf teams.
